The 100 most responsible companies in terms of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) in Spain in 2023

This Wednesday, January 23, Merco announced in an online webinar the 100 most responsible companies in terms of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) in Spain in 2023.
These rankings are published after an exhaustive and detailed analysis of more than 53,587 surveys, in which 25 sources of information and 7 perspectives have been taken as reference. Specifically, Merco ESG Responsibility Spain 2023 has had the participation of 1,153 managers, 77 CSR experts, 89 financial analysts, 89 economic and society journalists, 88 members of “Government”, 106 NGO officials, 85 union officials , 79 from consumer associations, 89 Social Media Managers, 400 SME managers, 8,001 citizens, as well as the latest edition of Merco Talento (43,331 people in the sample) and Merco Digital (in collaboration with Nethodology), which analyzes the publications and the conversation generated on social networks. In addition, objective indicators have been studied in the different dimensions, provided by 82 companies.
In 2023, Grupo Social Once (1st), Inditex (2nd) and Mercadona (3rd) are the three most responsible companies in Spain under ESG criteria. Completing the top ten are IKEA (4th), Mapfre (5th), Mahou San Miguel (6th), Mutua Madrileña (7th), Caixabank (8th), Leroy Merlin (9th) and Danone (10th).
Among the most environmentally responsible companies, Ecoalf (1st), IKEA (2nd), Grupo Social ONCE (3rd), Iberdrola (4th), Acciona (5th), Inditex (6th), Mercadona (7th), Mahou stand out in order. San Miguel (8th), Heineken (9th) and Mapfre (10th).
The most responsible in the social, internal and customer sphere are, in order, Grupo Social ONCE (1st), Mercadona (2nd), Inditex (3rd), Mapfre (4th), IKEA (5th), Mutua Madrileña (6th), El Corte Inglés (7th), Mahou San Miguel (8th), CaixaBank (9th) and Danone (10th).
Those that have stood out in their responsibility at an ethical and governance level are, in order, Grupo Social ONCE (1st), Inditex (2nd), Mercadona (3rd), IKEA (4th), Mapfre (5th), Mahou San Miguel (6th), Danone (7th), Leroy Merlin (8th), Repsol (9th) and Mutua Madrileña (10th).
This year we have also collected the companies whose managers are most responsible at the ESG level, and these results are evident:
- Environmental: Ecoalf, Iberdrola, Ikea, Inditex and Acciona.
- Social: Once Social Group, Mercadona, Inditex, Caixabank and Mutua Madrileña.
- Government: Grupo Social Once, Inditex, Santander, Telefónica and Caixabank.
The monitoring of the methodology established by Merco for the preparation of the ranking has been the subject of independent review by KPMG.
