As part of the Ranking of Responsibility and Good Governance, MERCO has included for this third consecutive measurement in Panama, a question that determines which are the 30 companies that are standing out for their social commitment during the Covid-19 crisis, led by Banco General (1st), Riba Smith Supermarkets (2nd) and Banco Nacional de Panamá (3rd).
Eight (8) of the first 10 companies that appeared in the special with the greatest social commitment Covid-19 are in the top 10 of the Merco Responsibility and Corporate Governance ranking. This indicates that social responsibility has become evident in a pandemic, and companies have gained a position as agents of economic and social change. We find Banco General (1st), Panama Canal Authority (2nd) and Copa Ailines (3rd) in the first three positions.
Regarding the classification of companies, for the third consecutive year, Banco General (1st) was at the head of the most reputable companies in Panama in 2020, followed by the Panama Canal Authority (2nd), which gained a position and Copa Airlines (3rd). The top 10 is completed by Supermercados Riba Smith (4th) and Grupo Melo (5th) (which both win two positions), Ricardo Pérez-Toyota (6th), Cervecería Nacional (7th) (which wins three positions), Banco Nacional de Panamá ( 8th), Nestlé (9th), and Farmacias Arrocha (10th). The top 10, although with movements in positions, is made up of the same companies as in 2019.
